Eugene Mulero is a senior reporter at Transport Topics, focusing on Congress and national policy. He writes the Capitol Agenda column and leads coverage of elections. He also has a weekly segment on SiriusXM’s Road Dog Trucking show and has shared his expertise on television, radio and at conferences.
Prior to Transport Topics, he was with HuffPost, E&E News, and CQ Roll Call. His newsroom experience also includes stints at The Arizona Republic, New Jersey’s Daily Record and The Hudson Reporter in Hoboken. Several of his national affairs pieces appeared in The New York Times, USA Today and National Journal.
He earned distinction for examining Las Vegas’ “Project Neon,” analyzing a transit project in Honolulu, reporting on rebuilding efforts after Hurricane Sandy, investigating Phoenix’s recycling operations, profiling professional runner Lopez Lomong, chronicling Hoboken’s nightlife, and managing coverage of a fatal fire at Seton Hall University.
He studied at The Toni Stabile Center for Investigative Journalism, held an appointment as adjunct professor of media studies at Seton Hall University, and was a 2011 International Center for Journalists fellow. Degrees in journalism from Seton Hall University and Columbia University anchor his academic pedigree. Originally from Puerto Rico, he now resides in Virginia.
